Description
Work Package 1 analyses how the interconnection of cultural literacy, performing arts and social cohesion and inclusion is addressed in existing research, current cultural and educational policies and curricula and produces a novel analytical framework.
WP1 will produce a comprehensive research literature review, including indigenous knowledge and de-/postcolonial perspectives, at the nexus of cultural literacy and performing arts education.
WP1 also aims to analyse current national or regional curricula for pre-primary, primary, secondary, tertiary and non-formal education in Aotearoa/New Zealand, Finland, Germany, Italy, Norway, Serbia, and Uganda. In addition, it investigates European, national, regional, and organisational policy documents in the seven consortium countries as well as the Council of Europe and the European Union. The analysis also focuses on relevant policy frameworks produced by NGOs representing the d@rts target groups. This analysis produces an overview on the roles, understandings and mutual relations of cultural literacy, social cohesion and inclusion, and the position of performing arts in cultural and education policies and curricula in Europe and beyond.
Finally, WP1 seeks to develop a novel multidisciplinary framework for analysing cultural literacy learning in policies and practices. This framework of analysis advances research on cultural literacy by a) drawing upon Indigenous knowledge and de-/postcolonial perspectives, b) emphasising cultural literacy as a dialogical practice and c) bringing clarity to the notion of cultural literacy and its links to performing arts education and its impacts on social cohesion and inclusion.
